TOO CLOSE TO HOME

Art commission by Zuid. Boijmans Van Beuningen

"Too Close to Home" transforms the field research of Metincan Güzel into a three-part narrative on a spatial/textual level. The narrator moves and speaks within three different installations that allude to the shops discovered in Rotterdam Zuid. Concrete architectures of shops come to life through lists of objects, and the narrator's story intertwines with the individuals encountered in these places. Exploring concepts of belonging, migration, and homeland, the narrator investigates the relationships people establish through objects/spaces and gradually confronts his own reflections. Within these unclear images, childhood, memories, distances, and even emotions emerge.  The narrator, who does not conceal the fragility and inadequacy of the subject matter, places himself at the center as a queer subject, yet at times conveys a polyphonic diaspora tableau to the audience.

The script is written and directed in collaboration with Okan Urun
