What We Build While Waiting
Closure of Ford Genk 2012–2014
The work examines the waiting period between the announcement of the Ford Genk factory closure in 2012 and its final shutdown in 2014. Rather than treating this interval as a passive transition, it considers waiting as a productive condition in which collective organization, negotiation, and political imagination could emerge. Through sculpture, video, and screen prints on metal, the project brings together workers’ testimonies, archival materials, and newly produced moving images that place the story of Ford Genk in dialogue with urban resistance in Istanbul. The project understands closure not as an ending but as a condition from which alternative forms of building, remembering, and acting together become possible, asking what we build while waiting.
